About Get Lost in Italy

Get lost in Italy is a blog run by Susan Dufresne. On the blog she writes about her life after quitting her corporate job in the United States, selling everything and moving with to Italy with her 2 dogs. She writes about her travels, experiences with the culture, language and the people in a small village in Southern Italy.

Strategy behind the design

During our mentoring sessions Susan brought up that she was not happy with the structure of her website. The homepage felt more suited for a service-based business then a blog. And as a result visitors had to go though an additional page to get to the blog posts.

So to take away this additional step we removed the old homepage. For the new homepage we created a page that showed het featured and most read blog posts at the top, included the icons that represent her categories, her latest posts and a newsletter sign-up. She already has the sidebar but only on the blog pages. As this is a great way to navigate through all the posts and categories we included this element on the homepage.

We also worked on creating blog post templates for the different categories she had to save time and create unity in the look and feel of the blog posts. The same was done for her newsletters in Squarespace.

THE RESULTS

After working together for 3 months Susan has achieved some amazing results from having a content strategy that has her posting blog posts, newsletters and social media content regularly, to being contacted for collaborations and an interview via social media as well as quadrupling her website traffic. And with the new layout for the homepage it will be even easier to read all the great posts that give you the opportunity to explore Italy.
